Connecting Horizons

We are a community-based group that works to identify and respond to the needs of individuals with special needs and their families living in Kahnawake. Our group includes individuals with special needs, parents/caregivers of individuals with special needs, and representatives from community organizations such as the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK), Step by Step Child & Family Center (SBS), Kahnawake Fire Brigade (KFB), Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services (KSCS), Tewatohnhi’saktha, First Nations Human Resources Development Commission of Quebec (FNHRDCQ), and Kahnawake Education Center.

Through consultations, our group called Connecting Horizons builds grassroots initiatives to understand the needs of families and individuals with disabilities. We also aim to increase awareness and engage leadership, community members, and other organizations to support our mission to help meet those needs. We are accountable to persons with special needs, families and caregivers of persons with special needs, organizations that provide services to those with special needs, the community, and future generations. If you are a self-advocate, a family member, or someone who works with community members who have special needs, we welcome you to reach out to join the conversation and be part of planning for a healthy and fulfilling future for all!
